Making 3D Wreaths for Table Decor Using Beads

In the article, I write things like what to do using beads and talk about my previous experiences. I mostly use pictures to give ideas. Now I’m going to show you how to make a 3D ornament for tables using beads.

Here is my best try at explaining how I made this.

Supplies:

  • 14” 3D wreath (DT)
  • 72 large Glitter Vase Filler balls (DT)
  • It took 3 bags to collect 72. Filled the jar with the smaller ones. Still have a bag full of green ones.
  • 1 styrofoam disk (DT) comes in 2 pk
  • 2 thin plastic straws cut 8 1 inch pcs (junk drawer)
  • 32 large wood beads (20 mm???)
  • 128 small wood beads (16 mm???)
  • I used 2 packages of Little Makers asst beads from Joann’s kids craft area. They were on sale this week for $2.79 per bag… my big splurge!
  • 3 burlap leaves (DT)comes in 6pk
  • 1 roll ribbon (DT)
  • 3 feet twine

Mason jar and candle or whatever you want to put in the center:

Separate the 4 rings of the 3D wreath.

For each ring: cut the bottom open on one side of the little O then cut the other side of the O to remove it. Do the same to the piece that has the I.

Now thread beads onto each side of the ring, starting with a piece of straw. (That’s going to be the top).

Thread beads onto wire, leaving about 2 inches of wire exposed at the end

Assemble by taking one ring at a time and poking one end of the exposed wire straight into the styrofoam disk, and then placing the other directly across from it. The next ring will go halfway between those. And 3 and 4 will go halfway between those. It helps to have someone help hold things at this point.

Secure by tying a bit of twine around the top.

I’m going to use glue to secure the wire into the styrofoam

Now it’s ready to embellish to tour liking!

Materials Needed for Bead Crafts

Above, I gave you examples of crafts that can be made with simple beads, now let’s see what the materials are. I can tell you that the materials you need to get started are relatively simple. In this section, I will cover the two main types of beads you’ll encounter and the essential tools you’ll need to create beautiful bead crafts. You can take a look at the basic cheap supplies you need to make all kinds of crafts.

Types of Beads

There are many types of beads available for crafting, but the two most common types are:

  1. Seed beads: These are tiny beads that come in a wide range of colors and finishes. They are perfect for creating intricate designs and patterns. Seed beads are available in different sizes, ranging from 15/0 (the smallest) to 6/0 (the largest).
  2. Pony beads: These are larger beads that are often used for kids’ crafts. They come in a variety of colors and are easy to work with. Pony beads are available in different shapes, including round, square, and star.

Essential Tools

To get started with bead crafts, you’ll need a few essential tools:

  1. Beading needles: These are long, thin needles that are used to string beads onto thread or wire. Beading needles come in different sizes, so make sure to choose one that is appropriate for the size of your beads.
  2. Beading thread or wire: This is what you’ll use to string your beads together. Beading thread is available in different materials, including nylon, silk, and polyester. Beading wire is usually made of stainless steel or copper.
  3. Scissors: You’ll need a good pair of scissors to cut your thread or wire.
  4. Bead mat: This is a soft, cushioned mat that will keep your beads from rolling away while you work.
  5. Pliers: You’ll need pliers to crimp your wire or attach findings to your finished piece. Round-nose pliers are great for making loops, while flat-nose pliers are useful for gripping and bending wire.

Step-by-Step Guide to Bead Crafts

If you’re new to bead crafts, don’t worry! It’s easy to get started with some basic beading techniques. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can move on to more advanced techniques to create even more intricate designs.

Basic Beading Techniques

To get started with bead crafts, you’ll need a few basic supplies. These include beads of your choice, beading thread or wire, and a beading needle. Once you have your supplies, you can start with the following basic techniques:

  1. Stringing: This is the most basic beading technique, and involves simply stringing beads onto a thread or wire. You can create simple necklaces and bracelets using this technique.
  2. Knotting: Knotting is a technique used to keep beads in place on a strand of thread or wire. This is useful if you want to create a pattern or design with your beads. To knot, simply tie a knot between each bead.
  3. Crimping: Crimping is a technique used to secure the ends of a beaded strand. This is useful if you want to create a clasp for a necklace or bracelet. To crimp, simply place a crimp bead on the end of your strand, and use pliers to flatten it.
