Salt and Pepper in The Butter Dish Project
I found it to last longer if you first LIGHTLY sand. Then wipe down with Rubbing Alcohol, let Completely dry. Then paint with all-purpose paint. Or spray paint. Which ever is convenient for you.
Then after it dries overnight spray with a clear coat, let dry a couple of hours then clear coat again. This will help when you need to wipe it clean and keep it from chipping.
